How it works

The Command key you never use, put to work.

Right Command becomes a switch for your apps. Pick a shortcut below to see which keys it uses.

⌃control
⌥option
⌘command
space
⌘command
⌥option
Hold right ⌘ on your own keyboard, or pick a shortcut.

Illustration only. OpenRight runs on your Mac, not in this page.

Prefer another trigger? Settings let you choose right ⌘, right ⌥ or ⌃+⌥. Unmapped shortcuts pass straight through to the focused app.

Features

Small on purpose. Sharp where it counts.

App switching, pinned launch shortcuts, app search and signed in-app updates.

Signed in-app updates

Choose Check for Updates… from the menu, or turn on automatic checks. Sparkle verifies every download against the Ed25519 public key embedded in the app before extracting it. You decide when to install and relaunch.

Private by design

OpenRight records no typed keys, collects no analytics and does not read window contents. Only update checks and downloads contact GitHub. Your preferences stay in ~/Library/Application Support/OpenRight/.

Pin any key

Pin a letter or digit to an app. Pinned shortcuts launch the app when it is closed, and Add pin includes installed apps that are not running.

Fuzzy app search

Right ⌘ + Space, or the menu bar, opens a launcher. Type part of an app’s name and press Return to focus or launch it.

Follows your layout

OpenRight uses translated key characters, so letter assignments follow your current keyboard layout.

Settings that stay out of the way

Apps grouped by shortcut key, pinned app first. Choose repeat behaviour per pin, disable keys, pause shortcuts or launch at login.

Plays nice with rcmd

If rcmd is running, OpenRight suspends its Right Command shortcuts so the two apps never act on one keypress.

Native & open

Swift, public macOS APIs, MIT licensed. Sparkle is the only third-party runtime dependency.

Scope, honestly: OpenRight is an independent implementation inspired by rcmd and contains none of its code, assets or configuration. It does not implement rcmd’s window switcher, window search, Spaces controls, Lenses or saved workspaces. Secure Input can prevent a global keyboard listener from receiving events.
